A psychological evaluation can bring clarity to what you’re experiencing, support a diagnosis, guide treatment planning, or help you and your providers understand the full picture of your functioning. At PATH, our evaluations are conducted with the same dignity-based, culturally responsive approach that guides all of our clinical work.
Comprehensive, Trauma-Informed Assessment
A psychological evaluation can bring clarity to what you’re experiencing, support a diagnosis, guide treatment planning, or help you and your providers understand the full picture of your functioning. At PATH, our evaluations are conducted with the same dignity-based, culturally responsive approach that guides all of our clinical work.
What Our Evaluations Involve
Depending on the referral question, our psychologists conduct comprehensive assessments that may include:
- Diagnostic evaluation — clarifying a diagnosis or understanding co-occurring conditions
- Personality assessment — understanding patterns in emotion, behavior, and relationships
- Cognitive and neuropsychological evaluation — assessing memory, attention, processing speed, and other cognitive functions
- Trauma and dissociation assessment — specialized evaluation of trauma-related symptoms and dissociative experiences
- Functional assessment — understanding how symptoms affect day-to-day functioning
Every evaluation includes a clinical interview, relevant standardized testing, and an integrative written report designed to be clinically useful — not just a list of scores and labels.
Our Approach to Assessment
We treat assessment as a collaborative, meaning-making process, not simply the production of a diagnosis. Our evaluators pay close attention to how trauma, culture, identity, language, disability, and lived experience may shape assessment results — and we write our reports in language that reflects the complexity and dignity of the person being evaluated.
Who This Is For
People seek evaluations at PATH for many reasons, including:
- Wanting clarity about a possible diagnosis
- Needing documentation to support treatment planning or accommodations
- Being referred by a treating provider for a more in-depth assessment
- Wanting to better understand cognitive, emotional, or trauma-related symptoms
- Individuals involved in the legal system, including criminal, civil, and family law matters.
If you have been referred for an evaluation connected to a legal matter (such as a custody case, personal injury claim, or disability determination), please let us know when scheduling — these evaluations involve a different process and are addressed separately from our general clinical assessment services. Contact us(opens in new tab) to discuss your specific referral question.
What to Expect
The evaluation process typically includes an initial clinical interview, one or more testing sessions, and a feedback session to review results together. Timelines vary depending on the type and scope of evaluation needed.
Evaluations are available at our Everett and West Seattle locations.
PATH is a nonprofit training site for doctoral psychology interns. Assessment services may involve supervised trainees working under the direct oversight of a licensed psychologist. We’re happy to answer any questions about who will be involved in your evaluation.
